At last night’s meeting, Blairsville Borough Council heard complaints from a resident about the police department and agreed to buy a house to allow for more parking.
The offer for the house was made to the borough from Mr. and Mrs. Rizer at a cost of $5000. Borough manager Tim Evans said in the winter months, the rec center is busy and parking is tight when the Elks Lodge hosts an event.
Meanwhile, borough resident Frank Eckenrode said he would like to see more police enformcement.
Councilwoman Adele Davis said she would also like to see more patrols in front of her house. Other council members said that htey have seen cars pulled over. Police chief Michael Allman notes the cost of radar equipment for speed enforcement would be around $1000.
In other business, council noted that five bids were submitted for the G.C. Murphy Building Demolition project. Adjusting for a change order, the cost is estimated at $557,000. Bids will be opened on March 12th, after an executive session of council.
