IUP’s Six O’Clock Series tonight will focus on the music and civil rights impact of Aretha Franklin.
Tonight’s program, called “Respect: The Aretha Franklin Journey Through the Civil Rights Movement” will be held at Fisher Auditorium at the IUP Performing Arts Center. The program will feature not only Franklin’s hit songs like “Respect”, but it will also study how the song links to the feminist and civil rights movements. In an interview with Todd Marino on Indiana in the Morning, Theo Turner, the director of the Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement, said that the program is not just a concert or a lecture.
Turner also said that “Respect” still has an impact on today’s audience.
The program is free and the public is invited to attend.
