West Virginia Natural Resources Police yesterday confirmed the identity of a missing kayaker as 41-year-old Jamie Gray of Hacker Valley, West Virginia. According to her Facebook page, she is a former resident of Elderton.
Gray went missing on Sunday afternoon while kayaking with about ten others on the Middle Fork River in Barbour County. She was swept under a rock in muddy brown rapids and did not resurface. Witnesses said her life vest did come to the surface and washed downstream. It has not been recovered, but her kayak and paddle have. The search for her body continues.
Today’s Tribune Review quotes a DNR official who says the water conditions are inhibiting the effort to find her.
