Charles D. Wetzel, age 69, finished his course and entered the realms of God’s glory on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Charles “Chuck” was born in 1950 to Earl and Jean Farnsworth Wetzel at his home in Deckers Point,Grant Twp. After graduating from Marion Center High School in 1969, Chuck spent his career working as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for various coal companies. After gaining many years of knowledge and experience, he completed his career as a surface mine foreman for AmFire Mining Company. He was known as a hard worker with a tremendous work ethic.
Chuck was a member of Bethany Chapel in Marion Center where he loved teaching children’s church and serving as an Elder. His testimony, which shone throughout every area of his life, was a clear reflection of his love of God. His greatest desire in life was to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and to share it with each person he came into contact with.
He is survived by his dearly loved wife, Jamie Lentz Wetzel, whom he married February 19, 1971. He is also survived by a daughter Kathryn Barr and her husband Frank Jr., Pine Flats; two grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Jacob Barr and wife Kari, Homer City; Jordan Barr, Pine Flats; and by his estranged son and family, Rochester Mills. Chuck is also survived by his mother Jean Farnsworth Wetzel, Marion Center; and the following siblings, Ken Wetzel and wife Sue, Marion Center; Wade Wetzel and wife Kathie, Rochester Mills; Harry “Bud” Wetzel and wife Aleta, New Mexico; Bonnie Wetzel, New Mexico; Patricia Fenton and husband Randy, Marion Center.
He is survived by five sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Edla Lentz, Martinsburg; Susan Pierce, Indiana; Tim Lentz and wife Sharon, Johnstown; Ida Batulis and husband John, Delaware; Loraine Williams and husband Tom, Connecticut; John Lentz and wife Mary Evelyn, Rural Valley; Marguerite Chambers and husband Terry, Maryland; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and infant brother, David Earl Wetzel.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Friends will also be received on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bethany Chapel, Marion Center, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian King officiating. Interment will be made in the Marion Center Memorial Cemetery.
