At last night’s community meeting at the Coral-Graceton fire hall, officials with the U.S. Postal Service announced that citizens in Coral would have a post office once again.
Coral has been without a post office since 2016 after the former post office burned down due to a fire that was intentionally set. During last night’s meeting, USPS officials said that they are working on the real estate side of things, trying to find the right site for the new post office. The only proposal that was received so far was on property owned by the fire department. The proposal would have the USPS lease the land from the fire department, and the fire department would receive regular rent payment.
The idea for the post office going in on fire department property met with approval from many in attendance, including Jason Lawson.
Since the fire, Coral citizens have been going to Homer City’s post office to collect their mail. Colleen Horchar said last night having the post office in Coral would be welcome as it will be more of a convenience.
The new post office would offer the similar counter-based service as the previous post office, and would only be open for a few hours a day as a remotely operated location, while postal customers would have access to their PO Boxes 24/7.
The project looks to be completed in four to six months.
