Indiana County’s total number of lab-confirmed flu cases this season increased by 34 last week, after a jump of 100 new cases the week before. The latest State Health Department report shows flu activity decreasing across the commonwealth, the first drop in the pace since the second week of October.
Indiana County has had 245 flu cases since the season began in the first week of October. 201 of them have been Type B and 44 have been Type A.
Among our neighbors, Armstrong County is a bit less sickly, with 217 total cases this season. They had 34 new cases last week after an increase of fifty the week before. Cambria County went against the trend, adding 138 new cases last week after an increase of 109 the week before. They’ve had 927 flu cases overall. Clearfield County had 49 new cases, after recording 65 new cases the week before. They stand at 216 for the season. Jefferson County added 51 new cases, after 45 the week before. They’re at 172 this flu season. And Westmoreland County had 180 new lab-confirmed cases, after adding 335 the week before. They’ve had 1,616 flu cases since the start of October.
Alarmingly, the death toll from flu rose from thirteen to twenty-four last week across the state. Eighteen of the deaths were people over the age of 65.
