Fire officials say that the trailer fire in Armstrong Township earlier this morning gutted the structure, but some of the belongings were able to be salvaged.
Indiana County 911 reported that the fire was initially reported at 7:51 this morning, and Creekside and Indiana fire departments were called out initially. Elderton, Plumville, Homer City, McIntyre and Marion Center fire departments were called out later on, with Dayton and Brush Valley fire departments called out to standby for Plumville and Homer City fire departments respectively.
Cody Hitchings of the Creekside fire department said the fire was electrical in nature, and started where the clothes washer was plugged in. Hitching said that when he and Indiana firefighters got there, they noticed smoke coming from the structure. He also added that the occupant had left a door open, which he says will help a fire spread, so firefighters shut the door to slow the fire’s progress.
The building was not insured, and the tenant did not have renter’s insurance. No injuries were reported, and the fire was knocked down within an hour.
