State police say charges of endangering the welfare of a child are pending against two teens in the Seward area that had a two-year-old child in their care take two hits on a vaping device.
Troopers say that a 17-year-old girl from Seward was babysitting the child at a home along Jan-L Street in St. Clair Township, Westmoreland County last Thursday between 5 and 8 PM when the child took a vaping device from a nightstand and started to use it. The babysitter and an 18-year-old girl from Armagh not only allowed the child to use the device, but shot a video of it and uploaded it to Snapchat. After the video was posted, someone called the Safe2Say Something tip line to report it.
The device was believed to contain 3% nicotine but no THC was found in the device. The teens did not notify the 2-year-old’s parents about the incident, and they found out about it through the State Police. Police say the child was seen coughing in the video after using the device, but showed no other ill effects.
Prior to the news release from State Police this morning, the United School District said they were also made aware of the video and believe that the two teens in the video are students in the district. The district provided investigators with their names as part of their investigation.
The investigation remains open at this time.
