The Pirates have agreed to a one-year contract with outfielder Guillermo Heredia.
The 28 year-old Cuban hit .225 with 5 homers and 20 RBI in 89 games last year with the Rays. He had played three previous seasons with the Mariners.
Heredia is known primarily for his defense, as he can capably play all three outfield positions. He should fit in with the Pirates as an extra outfielder, unless they trade Starling Marte, in which case Heredia could see more regular time in left or center field. The Pirates figure to open the season with Bryan Reynolds in left, Marte in center and Gregory Polanco in right. unless they deal Marte away before then.
