More Indiana County residents earned ribbons yesterday at the State Farm Show in Harrisburg.
In the swine competition, Hunter McMillen had the Champion Heavyweight and Breegan Robertson got the Reserve Champion Lightweight ribbon in the Market Swine Crossbred competition.
Other swine ribbon-winners from Indiana County include the Ken Wetzel family of Rossiter, who had the Champion and Reserve Champion Chester Whites. They also took first and second in the Chester White January Gilts, and first and third in the February Gilts. The Wetzels also had the second and third place Spotted Swine January Gilt and the reserve Champion Spotted Swine.
Dennis Chambers, who is also from northern Indiana County, had the second place Duroc January Gilt. Garrett Livingston of Smicksburg had the second place March & After Duroc Gilt. He also had the first-place Hampshire January Gilt.
Annalee McCloskey of Homer City had the top Late Spring Heifer Calf.
Because of the size of the animals and the cost and difficulty of transporting them cross-state, not many farmers send large animals from western Pennsylvania to the Farm Show.
