The PA Farm Show officially kicks off today in Harrisburg, but Indiana County is well represented in some of the early competitions.
The Ken Wentzel and Family farm in Rossiter took top positions in several swine categories, including first and second in Chester White January Gilts, first and third in February Gilts, third in Hampshire February Gilts, and second and third in Spotted Swine January Gilts among others. Also, Garrett Livingston of Smicksburg took first in the Hampshire January Gilts.
In the beef cattle categories, Annalee McCloskey of Homer City took first in the late spring heifer calves in the Maine-Anjou open category, while Montanna McCloskey took fifth in the early spring heifer calves division.
The Pennsylvania Farm Show officially opens at 10:00 this morning with ceremonies that will be attended by Governor Tom Wolf. The farm show runs through next Saturday and will feature 12,000 competitive exhibits. Admission is free, but parking at the farm show complex and in nearby lots costs $15.
