The State Farm Show begins this weekend in Harrisburg, and it got off to a buttery-smooth start yesterday with the unveiling of the butter sculpture, a 1,000-pound depiction of the Philadelphia Eagles’ mascot, “Swoop”, the Philadelphia Flyers’ “Gritty”, and – proving that folks in eastern Pennsylvania have no idea about sports in our end of the state – the Pittsburgh Steelers’ “Steely McBeam.” No, there is no Pirate Parrot, no Iceburgh, and not even a Phillie Phanatic.
If you‘re going to the Farm Show, here is some information you need to know:
- The home of “the world’s largest indoor agricultural exposition” is the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center, at North Cameron and Maclay streets in Harrisburg.
- There are more than 9,000 parking spaces at the complex and parking there and at parking lots in the neighborhood costs $15.
- A free shuttle service will take you from Harrisburg Area Community College, on Wildwood Park Drive, and another parking lot at Sycamore Street and Elmerton Avenue.
- You can park at more remote areas without having to pay the $15 parking fee, with free shuttle service provided courtesy of Capital Area Transit, through the sponsorship of PSECU and PennAg Industries.
- A preview of the food court opens today from noon to 9 PM, with free parking.
The Farm Show officially opens tomorrow and runs eight days, to next Saturday.
