Penguins forward Jake Guentzel had shoulder surgery this morning and will be out four to six months, potentially ending his season.
During Monday night’s 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators, Guentzel was tripped by Senators defenseman Thomas Chabot and hit the boards face-first. Guentzel left the ice under his own power but appeared to be favoring his right shoulder.
If Guentzel returns from the surgery after four months, he could still play in the playoffs.
Guentzel scored his 20th goal of the season last night and just yesterday was named to the NHL All-Star Team. After 39 games this season, he leads the team with 20 goals and 43 points.
