Preliminary hearings are scheduled for Indiana County District Court Judges today, including the hearing for a man charged with trying to pass fake money at a Clymer convenience store.
A hearing will be held today for Robert Ryan Packer, a 40-year-old man from Clymer who is facing a charge of misdemeanor theft by deception. Clymer Borough Police said that around 6:00 PM on October 23rd, he tried to pay for merchandise at the Kwik-Fill on Route 286 with a fake $20 bill. The clerk refused to accept the payment and before police arrived, the man fled the scene, taking the phony $20 with him. Police say that the night before, Packer was successful in using a fake $20 to buy merchandise and it was not noticed until the drawer was counted. Police used surveillance video to identify Packer.
Also facing a preliminary hearing today is an Indiana man charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and driving while on a suspended license for an incident in Clymer on September 9rd of this year. Clymer police said 20-year-old Tyrece Dean of Indiana was charged on September 12th after officers saw him on surveillance footage of him using stolen debit cards to pay for items at the Sheetz in Clymer.
Both hearings are due before District Judge Christopher Welch.
