In high school basketball tipoff tournaments, for the boys, Saltsburg won the Leechburg Tournament with a 75-71 win over the host school. West Shamokin beat Youngsville 59-45 to win the Redbank Valley Tournament. Indiana fell to Hollidaysburg, 72-39; Homer Center lost to Berlin-Brothersvalley, 64-44; Marion Center lost to Johnsonburg, 54-43; United came up short against Westmont Hilltop, falling 57-48.
In girls’ action, Penns Manor won the Hollidaysburg Tournament, beating the host school, 72-67. Homer Center won their tournament title, beating Heritage Conference foe Purchase Line 63-49. United took the Windber Tournament title, thrashing the Ramblers, 57-18; Blairsville lost the consolation game of the Indiana tournament to Latrobe, 73-61; Marion Center beat Dubois Central Catholic, 54-52; Indiana fell to Punxsutawney, 57-53 in overtime; Knoch beat West Shamokin, 51-49; Conemaugh Valley defeated Northern Cambria, 36-33.
