Pennsylvanians shopping for Christmas Trees this weekend will have the opportunity to give provide a little holiday spirit for those serving in uniform far from home. The 15th annual Trees for Troops program is taking place this weekend, where those who purchase a Christmas tree can donate one to an American soldier overseas or to the family of a deployed soldier. PA Agriculture Sec.Russell Redding is among the supporters, saying 2 percent of the nation’s population are farmers, the same percentage as serves in uniform.
In Indiana County, the Mytrysak family tree farm, formerly the Flemming’s Tree Farm, will hold a trees for troops day today from 9-5 at their farm on Fleming Road. There will be music, face painting, food for sale, wagon rides, and you can meet a soldier and Santa Claus as well.
