Indiana Borough Council met last night and approved their 2020 budget that will hold the line on taxes for residents.
Indiana Borough will keep taxes the same with 5.66 mils levied and assessed for each dollar of valuatation of taxable real estate property within the borough. A tax of .136 mils will be used for library purposes and a fire assessment levy of .189 mils is for fire protection services in Indiana Borough.
In other action, the AAA Community Traffic Safety Award was presented to the Indiana Borough Police Department. Sgt. Eric Slovinsky says the award is for outstanding service, dedication and quality of life through traffic safety programming.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jerry Pickering announced plans for the Confluence Discovery Park for 2030. The group hopes to utilize upwards of $30 million in grant funding in conjunction with IUP. The primary goal of the project is to restore water bodies and serve as the outdoor community education center on 39 acres of land behind the Hilton Garden Inn near the KCAC. The conversion of an individual brownfield will result in environmental transformation for IUP and the region.
