Steve Sanders is the new assistant general manager of the Pirates. Sanders was a scouting assistant with the Red Sox when new Bucs general manager Ben Cherington was the general manager with Boston.
The Pirates have not offered catcher Elias Diaz a contract , but did sign infielder Erik Gonzalez to a one-year deal.
