Last Wednesday, Governor Tom Wolf signed a bill into law that would allow property owners to use purple paint to warn hunters that they are approaching an area where hunting is off-limits.
House Bill 1772, better known as the Purple Paint Law will go into effect late January. It will allow property owners to post no trespassing notification by painting purple stripes on trees and posts along the boundary line. The lines must be at least eight inches long and one inch wide and must be three to five feet off the ground, visible to those approaching the property, and they must be no more than 100 feet apart.
The law is designed to ease the landowner’s task of posting “no trespassing” signs that could deteriorate over time or could be damaged or stolen by others. Twelve other states have adopted “purple paint” laws.
