The Pennsylvania Firearms Deer Season is underway this morning and many hunters are getting in place this morning as deer season will start on a Saturday for the first time since 1963.
The main reason for the early start to deer season, according to the state game commission, is to get more people to come out and take part in the deer harvest. The game commission said that many people may be able to come out on Saturday rather than on Monday, when they may have to be at work or at school.
Those against the move say it will interfere with hunting camp traditions and affect long-standing Thanksgiving plans.
Next year, the hunting season schedule will change again as Governor Wolf signed into law a bill to allow deer hunting on three Sundays: one during archery deer season, one during rifle deer season and the third Sunday will be determined by the Game Commission.
