State representative Jim Struzzi formally introduced legislation that has been nicknamed Cody’s Law into the State House of Representatives.
Cody’s Law, also known as House Bill 2056, would charge any person who intentionally causes bodily injury to a person with a physical or intellectual disability with second-degree felony aggravated assault. That’s stricter that what the current law offers, which would be misdemeanor simple assault unless that serious bodily injury occurs.
The legislation was inspired by what happened to Cody Overdorff. Overdorff, who lives with William’s Syndrome, was lured to the Hoodlebug Trail near Floodway Park on August 20th and was attacked by four individuals. The announcement of Cody’s Law was made during a fundraising party for Overdorff on Saturday.
