State police are expected to step up their efforts during the Thanksgiving travel period.
Indiana Station Commander Lt. Joseph A. Loughran said in a news release that drivers should be careful, drive sober and buckle up during their travels over the next few days. The Thanksgiving travel period will run from November 27th to December 1st. Over a similar period last year, troopers in the Troop A area made 890 traffic stops, and issued 843 traffic-related citations. They made four DUI arrests, issued 597 speeding citations and handed out 15 seatbelt citations.
Troopers also investigated four traffic crashes, and while there were no fatalities reported, state police did report that one person was hurt in those four crashes.
Those travelling for Thanksgiving are encouraged to check with 511 PA online at 511pa.com, or check the 511PA app on their smartphone or call 511 before you leave to check traffic conditions. PennDOT has also announced that they will suspend construction projects where possible to allow a better flow of traffic.
