Charlie Gromley, 67, of Marion Center, PA passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 21, 2019 doing what he loved …. operating heavy equipment… specifically a combine. Charles was always on the move helping friends and family, but his heart said it was time for him to rest. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The son of Charlie and Dorothy (Bailey) Gromley, he was born on March 17, 1952 in Punxsutawney, PA.
Charlie married Karen E. Boarts on June 4, 1977 and they have shared over forty-two years of marriage.
He was currently employed with Penn Mechanical of Indiana, PA and previously employed by RES Coal and GLR Mining. Charlie was owner/operator of Gromley’s Ice for over twenty years and self-employed as Gromley Enterprises for five years.
Charlie was a member of the Dixonville Moose Lodge 833. He enjoyed riding his side-by- side and UTV and was a former motorcross driver. Known for his pleasant personality, he could always be found joking.
He is survived by his loving wife of over forty-two years: Karen E. Gromley of Marion Center, PA; his children: Melissa and husband Vernon Leasure of Rochester Mills, PA; ; Tonya Fairman and significant other, Drew Uncapher of Numine, PA; Tina and husband Heath Gaston of Rochester Mills, PA; Mindy and husband Justin Fetterman of Marion Center, PA; his eight grandchildren: Megan and husband Justin Ferrier; Alaina Leasure; Michelle Stonebraker and significant other, Steven Cramer; Shawn Stonebraker and significant other, Julia Leasure; Loren Gaston; Sawyer Gaston; Henley Fetterman and Baby Fetterman due February 2020; his great-daughter: Olivia Cramer; his mother-in-law: Betty Boarts of Marion Center, PA and many friends who he thought of as his family.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie and Dorothy Gromley; his brothers: Samuel Bailey and Robert Gromley; his father-in-law: Floyd Boarts; his brother-in-law: Duane Boarts and his sister-in-law: Barbara Boarts.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 2-4:00 p.m. and from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA where an 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 with Rev. Bruce Shannon officiating.
Interment will be at the Rowley Cemetery in Hillsdale, PA.
