In Harrisburg today, Senator Joe Pittman and Representative Jim Struzzi will be joined by their House and Senate colleagues to unveil bills that will be introduced to address Governor Tom Wolf’s unilateral move to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).
Wolf’s executive order issued last month directs the Department of Environmental Protection to propose a regulation that cuts carbon emissions from power plants and enable the state to join RGGI. Senator Pittman and Representative Jim Struzzi say it will force Indiana County’s four power plants to shut down and will raise electricity rates.
Pittman says Wolf’s executive order effectively establishes a fourth branch of government that does not have the balances the other three branches have. On Indiana In the Morning this month, he called it the “administrative branch” and its power will extend far beyond Wolf’s term.
Struzzi also is concerned with Wolf’s literal “power grab”, and says it’s an attempt to cut out the legislative branch of state government.
The news conference is at noon today and can be viewed online at both Struzzi’s and Pittman’s websites.
