Dominik Kahun scored two goals and Tristan Jarry made 32 saves as the Penguins whipped Toronto, 6-1.
A night after doing everything right except score goals in a 2-1 loss to New Jersey, the Penguins started slowly but found their legs with a power play goal by Jake Guentzel to start the scoring. Guentzel then fed Evgeni Malkin in the slot for a wrister past Maple Leafs rookie goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo later in the second.that made it 2-0, and the rout was on.
Kahun scored the next two goals, the second coming after it was initially ruled no goal due to goaltender interference, but that call was overturned on a coach’s challenge by the Penguins’ Mike Sullivan.
Jared McCann made it 5-0 before Toronto’s Jason Spezza got the Maple Leafs on the board. The Penguins added a third period short-handed goal by Bryan Rust, the third goal scored by the revamped top line of Malkin, Guentzel, and Rust, to set the final at 6-1.
Penguin penalty killers have not allowed a power play goal in nine straight games.
