The Saltsburg Trojans trailed the Bishop Guilfoyler Marauders by just seven points with three minutes remaining in the third quarter of the District 6 1A semifinals, but the top-seeded Marauders pulled away with 22 unanswered points in the final 13 minutes for a 47-18 win.
The loss ended Saltsburg’s first winning season since 1996 with an 8-4.
Quarterback Josh Gibbons completed 9 of 21 passes for 151 yards but threw three interceptions. He scored on a 1-yard touchdown to give Saltsburg its only lead, 7-6, in the first quarter.
Nathan Slapinski caught three passes for 39 yards and a 17-yard touchdown that cut Bishop Guilfoyle’s lead to 25-18 late in the third quarter. Gino Bartolini caught three passes for 57 yards.
Bishop Guilfoyle’s Keegan Myrick rushed 18 times for 144 yards and scored three touchdowns.
