Jennifer Nadine Mileff, 58, of Indiana, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at St. Andrew’s Village.
A daughter of Edward and Sylvia J. Riddell Mileff, she was born July 31, 1961, in La Mesa, Calif.
Having Down’s Syndrome, Jenny entered a residential home in Vienna, Va. in 1965. The family moved to Indiana in 1970, and there she benefitted from an excellent education at the ARIN Intermediate School, where she received speech therapy and learned to swim at the Indiana YMCA pool. During her school years, Jenny also belonged to the Girl Scouts of America and went to Camp Sunrise. On school holidays, she traveled with her family to Cape Cod, many European countries and Brazil. And for seven years following graduation from ARIN, Jenny volunteered at the Indiana Free Library, dusting books in the children’s section, with her mother doing the shelving.
Jenny will be remembered for the love and sweetness which she so naturally radiated to others. Her favorite song was Sunshine on my Shoulders, by John Denver. Below is an example of how her sister described Jenny:
My playful, impish, watchful, well-mannered,
One step ahead, favorite sister!
We love to travel; we love the sea.
Swimming and laughing, you and me.
We love to read and turn a page.
For you, it’s sports that always amaze.
Jenny will be dearly missed. She is survived by her parents, Edward and Sylvia Mileff, of Indiana; her sister, Susan de Morais and husband Marcelo, of Pittsburgh; and two nephews: Andrew and Christopher de Morais, of Pittsburgh.
There is no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Greg Golden and the Rev. Arthur Dilg officiating. Jennywill be inurned in a family plot in Osterville, Mass. Robinson-Lytle, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
