Clymer Borough Council will hold the line on taxes, but increase spending in a tentative 2020 budget approved at Tuesday’s meeting.
The Clymer Borough tax levy increase in spending of $89,000 means total expenditures in the budget top out at $537,000. A liquid fuels tax transfer to the general fund will help make up the balance.
Borough manager Rob Barto notes income tax collections have jumped by $10,000. He said that indicates an increase of wage earnings, more employment or both by borough residents.
Barto says police staffing expenses will increase by $33,700, providing for two full time officers and one part time officer.
In other business, Clymer Borough fees to Waste Management will increase by $7,000 in 2020, which is the last year of a five-year contract.
Mayor Christina King thanked the American Legion for their recent banquet, their service to the community, and the donation of a $1000 check to be used towards the Sherman Street Park.
Finally, Council President Louis Tate says that pickup for leaves will be on Mondays in front yards of properties in Clymer Borough
