Mary Jane (McCurdy) Downey, 92, of Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home, on Sat. Nov. 9, 2019, surrounded by family.
A daughter of the late Russell and Laura (Hazlett) McCurdy, she was born March 22, 1927, in Westmoreland County.
Mary Jane loved Christmas, collecting hundreds of Christmas houses, decorations and ornaments. Surrounded by her Christmas display, Mary Jane invited people to drop by, enjoy a cup of coffee, visit awhile, and enjoy her holiday display. Mary Jane courageously beat not only breast cancer, twice, but lung cancer as well.
She is survived by four children: William Downey and Joan Painter, of Sigel; Roxie Johnston and husband Scott, of Homer City; Dennis Downey and wife Carol, of Brush Valley; Randy Downey and Mary Wetzel, of Indiana; seven grandchildren: Amber Downey, of Washington; Brianne Johnston, of Irwin; Brandi Hartman, of Coal Run; Tyler Johnston, of Homer City; Dylan Downey, of Westmont; Katie Downey, of Latrobe; Zachary Downey, of Brush Valley; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mary Jane was the last surviving member of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Downey, Sr. in 1996; five brothers: William, Edward, Raymond, Samuel and John David McCurdy; four sisters: Mamie Eisenhart, Anna May Barkley, Dora Lewis and Elsie Keyser.
There is no visitation. Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family, with Pastor Jack Lucas officiating. Robinson-Lytle, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to thank her doctors; Dr. Ahmed, Dr. Ramineni, Dr. Boykiw and Indiana VNA Hospice for their exceptional care of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
