State Police are continuing their program of “Domestic Security Checks” of Indiana County’s public and private schools.
Since the program began on August 20th, state troopers have conducted 1,561 checks, which equates to about twenty visits a day, both when classes are in session and when they are not.
The troopers are required to do the checks during daylight, afternoon, and midnight shifts, during the week and on weekends. A Domestic Security Check typically involves a trooper driving through the parking lot of a school during student arrival and departure times, and for after-school events. They also do walk-throughs of school while classes are in session, and with the permission of the school administration, they will even have lunch with students as part of the Trooper-School Lunch Program.
State Police encourage parents to talk with their children about the role of law enforcement in society, especially as it relates to their safety and security in school.
