Indiana County’s Unemployment Rate went up in the month of September.
According to the PA Department of Labor and Industry, Indiana County’s unemployment rate went up two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.8%. That’s the same rate as last September’s unemployment rate. Indiana county is tied with three other counties at 44th among the state’s 67 counties, and that includes neighboring Armstrong County. Among the other neighboring counties, Westmoreland checked in with a 4.3% unemployment rate, Jefferson has a 4.5% unemployment rate, Cambria checked in with a 5.0% rate, and Clearfield had the highest among our neighbors at 5.2%. The lowest unemployment rate among the counties was Centre County at 2.9%, while Forest County had the highest at 6.1%.
The number of total non-farm jobs in the area increased by 1800 jobs to 32,600. Due to the end of summer break at local schools, government jobs had the biggest increase at 1400. Over the year, the number of jobs was unchanged.
