State police say two people have been arrested for making off with a car that one of them had taken for a test drive. Gloria Custer of Cherry Tree reported to police that on September 16th, she allowed the car to be driven away as she was trying to sell it. But it was not returned, and then was used for multiple days by the suspect and by another person. Custer made contact with the original suspect on the 22nd and demanded her car back, but didn’t get it. State police in Clearfield recovered it after it was involved in another incident. The suspects are 18-year-old James Potts of Coalport and 34-year-old Brittani Faught of Marion Center.
Police are also investigating an identity theft case that resulted in a raid on a woman’s bank account. The 39-year-old victim, who is from White Township, reported on Friday that someone gained access to her S&T Bank account and transferred $5,000 from savings to checking. Several purchases were then made using the bank account’s numbers.
A South Mahoning Township man reported to state police that someone stole a utility vehicle from an unlocked barn next to his home. 70-year-old Michael Zolocsik of Zolocsik Farm Road in Beyer said the red 2007 Yamaha YXR 660F Rhino side-by-side was taken between 11 PM on October 8th and 9:30 the following morning.
A Cherry Tree resident reports a lost firearm. It’s a Deringer over & under barrel handgun with a wooden grip, valued at $130. The owner is Evo Boston of Front Street.
Police are investigating a swipe-and-swap at the White Township Walmart, and they say the suspects also failed to ring up several other items at the self-checkout. It happened October 5th. A known 20-year-old female and an unidentified male took a fishing rod from the sporting goods department to the service desk for a fraudulent refund, and then did not ring up perishable items. Total value of the theft is $126.20. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 357-1960.
