The State Game Commission has scheduled seven public meetings this month to discuss chronic wasting disease, including sessions in Indiana and Clearfield counties.
Chronic wasting disease affects deer and elk and is always fatal, according to the Game Commission. It was first detected in the state in 2012 and has been confirmed in more than 250 deer, prompting the formation of Disease Management Areas to stop it from spreading.
The informational meetings will explain the disease, how it’s spread, regulations within each Deer Management Area, what to do if you harvest a deer, elk, or moose out-of-state, and what you can do to help fight Chronic Waste Disease.
The Indiana County meeting will be held at 7 PM on October 28th at the Hilltop Baptist Church, along West Pike in White Township. The Clearfield County meeting is also at 7, on the same night. It’s at the fairgrounds in Clearfield. Other meetings are scheduled in Allegheny, Blair, Montgomery, Somerset, and Union counties.
