A memorial service has been planned for Brian Swatt, the 21-year-old IUP student who was killed in a car crash in June in Armstrong County, just days after being hired as a staff member for State Senator Joe Pittman.
IUP has announced that the service will be on October 24th at 3 PM in the Toretti Auditorium at the Kovalchick Complex, with a reception afterward in the building’s DeChurch Lobby.
Swatt, who was from Lackawanna County, was a student member of the State System Board of Governors and was president of the IUP Student Government Association.
The accident outside of Kittanning happened only three days before Pittman was sworn into office. Swatt had been instrumental in Pittman’s campaign to replace the retired Senator Don White in May’s special election.
