On Tuesday, people from all over Indiana County turned out to see the Wall That Heals traveling exhibit come to Indiana County.
The three-quarter scale travelling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. arrived in Indiana at 4:30 escorted by over 100 motorcycles and by the Indiana County Sheriff’s department, with people lining Philadelphia Street to see the tractor-trailer truck containing the memorial come to town. Indiana Fire Association hung an American Flag from two of their ladder trucks across Philadelphia Street at 8th Street to welcome the convoy into town.
The monument is being seen as an important reminder as to how many people were lost in the war, including several from Indiana County, according to Dan Rice of Cherry Tree.
Chris White, a navy veteran, said that she had seen the memorial before and remembered the experience she had seeing it in Brookville five years ago.
The Wall That Heals is now in Mack Park and is available to visit 24/7 until this Sunday at 3:00 PM. You can view photos and video from yesterday’s procession through Downtown Indiana by logging on to our Facebook page.
