The State Public Utility Commission has approved a 7.5 percent rate increase for customers of Peoples Natural Gas and its Equitable Gas division. The company had sought a 14 percent increase in a filing last January. Peoples and Equitable both have customers in Indiana County.
Peoples said in its original filing that it planned to use the revenue generated by the increase to modernize its infrastructure and reduce greenhouse gases. The new rates are expected to increase Peoples’ annual revenue by $59.5 million.
