Criminal Call is scheduled today for more than five dozen cases in the Indiana County Court system.
Two of them involve defendants who are involved in high profile homicide cases, although one, James Eugene Brown, will be in court for another reason. Brown is the defendant in a homicide by vehicle case from July of 2018, when his car plowed through a gas pump and the building at Pikel’s Top Tier Fuels in Home, killing a woman who was working inside the building. His Criminal Call today is for a case in which he is facing three misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property a couple of months before the Pikel’s accident.
The Todd Walters case is scheduled for Criminal Call as well. Walters is the Indiana man accused of beating his mother to death in 2015. He’s undergone years of mental health treatment and is currently under involuntary commitment to Torrance State Hospital, awaiting yet another determination of his competency to stand trial.
Criminal Call is a court proceeding designed to update the court and the parties involved in a criminal case on its progress. The proceedings are frequently postponed to a later date, although on occasion a defendant will enter guilty pleas.
