The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has released their first fall foliage map for the season.
Right now, the map shows that Indiana County and to the south are about three weeks to a month away from the leaves peaking at their brightest colors. Change is being seen to the North, though as Jefferson County and most of the counties to the North will have peak colors in about two to three weeks.
Two counties are about a week away from peak colors, and they are in Susquehana and Wayne counties, in the Northeast region of the state.
Overall, there could be some delay across the state as warmer-than-normal temperatures over the past few days could delay the color change in areas that have received sufficient rainfall, but it could speed up the color change in areas that are dryer.
As far as the southwest region goes, Forbes State Forest has reported that the fall foliage is on track. Black gum, striped maple, and birch trees have started to change, but the forest remains mostly green overall.
