The IUP football team has moved up to No. 19 in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll.
The Crimson Hawks, 4- 0, are preparing to host the California Vulcans, 3-1, Saturday at 2 o’clock. The Vulcans are listed in teams receiving votes.
For the third time this season, an IUP player has been named the PSAC Western Division Athlete of he Week. All-Purpose player Duane Brown receives the award after his 184 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns against Mercyhurst last Saturday.
(From IUP Sports Information)
Brown’s big day included seven receptions for 153 yards and three touchdowns, two carries for seven yards and a score, and 24 punt return yards.
Brown scored three straight touchdowns through the second and third quarters to help IUP rebound from a 24-21 deficit to take a 42-24 lead into the fourth. He caught touchdown passes of 75, 7 and 32 yards, and ran for a 3-yard touchdown out of the Wildcat formation.
His four touchdowns are the most by an IUP player since Samir Bullock ran for six against Seton Hill in 2017 and his receiving yardage total is the most since Walt Pegues had 233 yards against Slippery Rock in 2015.
Brown now has 10 total touchdowns this year on just 27 combined touches. He had three touchdowns in the season opener and two more in week two at Millersville.
