Indiana County’s Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate went down slightly in the month of August.
According to the state department of labor and industry, Indiana County’s unemployment rate fell by one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.6 percent in August. That ties Indiana County with two other counties for 41st among the state’s 67 counties. The lowest unemployment rate among our neighbors is Westmoreland County at 4.1%. Jefferson County has a 4.4% unemployment rate, Armstrong and Cambria are at 4.8% each and Clearfield County has the highest among the neighboring counties at 5.1%. The state wide unemployment rate went unchanged at 3.9%. The lowest unemployment rate was 2.9% and that was seen in Adams, Centre and Chester counties. The highest unemployment rate was seen in Forest and Snyder counties at 6.2%.
The total number of non-farm jobs in the county increased by 200 to 30,700 jobs in the month of August. Over the last 12 months, jobs were essentially unchanged in the Indiana area.
