In their final preseason game, the Penguins lost, 3-2 in a shootout to the Buffalo Sabres, but more importantly, they lost captain Sidney Crosby and forward Bryan Rust after both took a puck to the foot while blocking slap shots.
The team is evaluating the extent of the injuries. Crosby was limping but was not on crutches or other medical assistance after the game.
Forward Alex Galchenyuk, who was acquired from Phoenix in the Phil Kessell trade, missed theg ame with an undisclosed injury. He has played in only one exhibition game.
The Penguins open the regular season at PPG Paints Arena on Thursday, again against Buffalo.
