The Steelers fell short in a 24-20 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara, California. The Steelers are off to their worst start since going 0-4 to begin the 2013 season.
Pittsburgh lost despite five San Francisco turnovers. James Conner’s fumble in the fourth quarter, which came just three plays after the Steelers forced the fifth 49ers turnover, set up San Francisco’s game-winning touchdown.
The Steelers were just 3 of 12 on third down, while the 49ers went 6 of 11 while controlling the ball for over 36 minutes.
Mason Rudolph threw for 174 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in his first NFL start.
The Steelers take on the 0-3 Bengals next Monday night.
