The Mariners beat the Pirates, 6-5, in 11 innings Thursday, handing the Bucs their sixth straight loss.
Pittsburgh’s Jake Elmore had three hits and two RBIs. Clay Holmes (1-2) took the loss, though the winning run was unearned. Pirates starter Joe Musgrove gave up four runs — two earned — and five hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked two.
Both teams had four-run second innings.
Steven Brault (4-5, 4.98) will start against Brewers right-hander Chase Anderson (6-4, 4.50) on Friday night in the first game of a three-game series at Milwaukee. The Brewers are in second place in their division and are one of the two teams in the running for the playoffs. Pregame is at 6:40 p.m. on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM.
