Robert Johnston Haines, 91, of Carlisle, formerly of Indiana, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at Cumberland Crossings Personal Care in Carlisle.
A son of the late Calvin M. and Margaret Olive Moorehead Haines, he was born Sept. 13, 1928, in Hawthorn, Clinton County.
Mr. Haines lived most of his life in Indiana County, where he was a 1947 graduate of Clymer High School. He was a dairy farmer for many years, but he also held jobs outside of the farm. Robert worked for the Altman Feed Store and for the Allentown Cement Construction Company. For six years, he was a Cherryhill Township Supervisor, and after retiring from dairy farming, he worked at Greensteel, Inc. in Dixonville. Robert was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. For the past four and half years, Robert lived in Carlisle with his daughter and family. Most recently he was a resident at Cumberland Crossings Personal Care facility, where he passed away. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Jean Haines Barr and husband John Martin Barr; a granddaughter, Lydia Marie Barr; and a nephew, William Nehls.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Olive Brown Haines; two children: James Robert Haines and Beth Ronda Haines; and a sister, Mary Lou Haines Nehls.
Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., with Pastor Jack Lucas officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
