State Superior Court has dealt another setback to Woodrow Hicks Jr., the 50-year-old Indiana man convicted of charges related to his attempt to meet a 15-year-old girl for sex in White Township in November of 2012.
The court has denied Hicks’ appeal of the denial of his post-sentence motions for relief and has also vacated a court order that changed his sex offender registration requirements from lifetime to ten years. He will now be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
The three-judge panel based its decision on a timeliness issue, ruling that Hicks filed his motions too late according to state law and therefore they should never have been considered.
Hicks was convicted in September of 2014 of unlawful contact with a minor, attempted statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors, criminal use of a communication facility, simple assault, and fleeing police. He was sentenced to five years in prison plus five years on probation. He is currently housed in Clearfield County with a requirement that he stay out of Indiana County, except that he may pass through the county without stopping as he is driven to Butler County for services at the VA facility there.
