In a statement issued this morning by Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin:
“Ben Roethlisberger had an MRI on his right elbow Sunday evening and it was determined by the Steelers’ medical team that surgery will be required. We expect the surgery will be scheduled for this week. He will be placed on our Reserve/Injured List and is out for the season.”
Roethlisberger was seen grimacing in pain after making what appeared to be a routine throw during the second quarter of the Steelers’ game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Mason Rudolph took over as quarterback for the remainder of the game and is likely to be Pittsburgh’s starter with Roethlisberger out for the season.
