The national observation of Constitution Day is not until tomorrow, but IUP’s celebration is today, with the traditional public reading of the Constitution from noon to 1 PM in front of Stapleton Library, looking into the Oak Grove.
President Michael Driscoll begins the event with the reading of the preamble. Tonight it’s an exploration of the authors’ intentions for the nation’s founding document at the Six O’Clock Series, from 6 to 7:30 in the HUB Ohio Room. Ben Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, Charles Pinckney, and James Madison will be there, portrayed by political science professors David Chambers and Steven Jackson, retired poli-sci professor Dighton “Mac” Fiddner, and history professor Joe Mannard.
The Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787, at the final meeting of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia.
