Indiana County businesses have often been plagued by counterfeit U.S. currency in the last year, and it happened again in Indiana Borough last week.
Indiana Borough Police say that sometime between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM last Wednesday, someone used phony twenty-dollar bills to make purchases at the Subway restaurant in the 500 block of Philadelphia Street, The bills look real, but as was the case with other counterfeit bills passed in both Indiana and Blairsville in the last twelve months, the fake bills have red and white Chinese symbols and black dashed lines on them.
There have been arrests made in other counterfeit money cases in Indiana County in the past year, but the bills keep turning up. Police don’t say how many phony bills were passed in the latest incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 724-349-2121.
