Kevin Newman hit a home run on the first pitch of the game (his 9th of the season) and the Pirates added homers from Josh Bell (his 35th) and Jose Osuna (his 10th) in an 11-4 thrashing of the Rockies in Colorado.
Newman had three hits, as did fellow rookie Bryan Reynolds, who raised his batting average to .332, second to Washington’s Anthony Rendon (.335) in the race for the batting title. Jacob Stallings also had three hits and Adam Frazier had two.
The Pirates go for the sweep of the four-game series this afternoon, with Steven Brault on the mound.
