State police based in Indiana will be out on the roadways in force over the Labor Day weekend, and say they will be setting up a sobriety checkpoint to check for drunk drivers. Punxsutawney-based state troopers will be doing the same thing.
The checkpoints will be set up at undisclosed locations.
The extra enforcement is funded by PennDOT through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Over the Labor Day weekend last year, state troopers investigated 722 crashes, made 660 DUI arrests across the commonwealth and covered eighty crashes in which alcohol was a factor. There were six fatal crashes over the weekend last year, with six people killed. Three of the crashes were alcohol-related.
